DEAR BOOSTER .....

Dear Booster,
Can you please tell me if there are any by-laws that a Booster Club has to have, and if there are, are they similar to ones of the PTA By-Laws. I have been elected President of my sons ROTC High School Booster Club. Have been in PTA for 12 years and not sure what are the rules the booster club would need to follow. Thanks, SAEJP@aol.com

Dear ROTC Booster President,
Unlike a PTA group, booster clubs are independent parent organizations established to support a specific activity or sport. And in most all cases a booster club is many times larger then a PTA group. Due to the type of activities, amount of fundraising and the state and federal guidelines that place a booster club in the same category as a business you will need to follow a few guidelines in setting up your booster club correctly.

Through our online Internet portal - BoosterWorld, you can find documents designed to help your group start out on the right foot and insure a successful development of your club. Here is a link to a section in our website that provides sample documents for getting started sample booster club documents. I would also like to encourage you to register your group with the NBCA so you can access all the resources you will need to help build and maintain a strong and thriving booster club.

Review the documents and then email us so we can help insure your booster club becomes a huge success.

Send us your Dear Booster.... article and we will select one each month to share with the readers of Booster Trends. To submit your question email dearbooster@boosterclubs.org.

BOOSTER CLUB TIPS & POINTERS

We want to give special thanks to this months contributor, Tina Hoffman with UltimateFundRaising.Net. Tina's tips come from Lawrenceville, Georgia.

I have two tips:
1. To get new members to be club officers, try having last years officer co-chair a position with a new member. When someone is there to "show you the ropes", the position doesn't seem quite to huge.

2. To gain membership, my daughters Chorus Booster Club offers incentives to join. When we paid our $10 dues, we received a coupon from a local restaurant for a free sandwich plus, when we show our Booster Club Membership Card at some of the local stores, we receive a discount. The restaurant and local stores donate these items/discounts to the booster club - it's free advertising for them!

Thanks Tina we appreciate your suggestions. You can visit Tina and Ultimate Fundraising.net in Vendor Alley and in Fundraising Corner.
