Club Fact

Alumni and friends

Each year a large group of dedicated individuals move out of the active folds of supporting booster clubs solely because their sons and daughters graduate.

Your club can retain an invaluable asset if you keep a line of communication open with these people. Make sure to include them in your newsletter mailings, invite them to club events and allow them to continue to support your organization.

VENDOR OF THE MONTH

Our Vendor of the Month is Volunteer Appreciation, Inc. This company is located in Nevada and is selling the Olympian CD of music and 6 Olympians talking about the challenges they encountered while training and/or deciding to try for the Olympics. This CD is being sold to promote having the 2014 Olympics in Reno, Nevada.

The Olympics cost thousands of dollars to put on and to have it back in the United States would be a terrific asset to our country and would give us the ability to spotlight a beautiful area.

This CD is out for only a limited time and will be extra special if the Olympics actually do come to the United States. We encourage you to check out the CD and Volunteer Appreciation, Inc. in our Product Special of the Month in Fundraising Corner.

VENDOR SPOTLIGHT OF THE MONTH

The Spotlight of the Month is the Mouse Bungee located in Scottsdale, Arizona . This is a unique and interesting product used to keep your mouse cord out of the way and untangled. It comes in a variety of colors and can have the name of your school imprinted on it with your school color.

The shape of the Mouse Bungee is interesting and unusual. The colors can add to your desk decor. Check out the Mouse Bungee in Fundraising Corner at the Spotlight section.

DEAR BOOSTER .....

Dear Booster,
How can our booster club attract more people to our meetings. We struggle each month to get more than a handful of parents to attend?
Help!
Dana K
Oswego, NY

Dear Dana,
Your problem is one shared by the majority of booster clubs across the country. If you want to attract more meeting attendance you must establish a solid reason for them to attend.

Here are some steps that can be taken to increase your attendance.
1. Always have your meeting on the same night each month - "2nd Wednesday of each month".
2. Never allow your meeting to go more then 1 hour.
3. Invite the coach or band director to speak about an important upcoming issue.
4. Have a meeting agenda so each person can see what will be discussed.
5. Allow for interaction and for those in attendance to voice their opinions - in a structured format.
6. Develop a reason for them to come.
7. Establish a phone tree to call with reminders prior to the meeting.
8. Develop an email list and email meeting notices.
9. And, remember to make your meetings positive and constructive.

If your booster club is made up of multiple teams or is considered an executive club that oversees multiple booster clubs then requiring a parent representative to come to each meeting in order to gain access to fundraising opportunities will always increase your attendance. It is important to remember that you want everyone to feel welcome at your meetings so setting up your room so that all have a favorable seat will also help.

Send us your Dear Booster.... article and we will select one each month to share with the readers of Booster Trends. To submit your question email dearbooster@boosterclubs.org.
