BOOSTER |

Dear Booster,
Many years ago I was involved with the booster club
when my children were in school and recently I approached
by a booster club member from the local high school
and asked to become a member. As my children are all
grown I questioned why I would want to join. Can you
help me to better understand why I should become a member
of the local high school booster club?
Veronica
A.
San Diego, CA
Dear
Veronica,
Congratulations
on two counts. First for taking the time when your children
were in school to volunteer and support the booster
club and second, for being contacted by your local high
school booster club and asked to become a member again.
Today probably more than when your children were in
school you are a greater asset for a booster club. Your
past experience and the fact that you can provide a
non-biased level of support and involvement is something
that all booster clubs can benefit from. Booster clubs
benefit more than just the participants of the programs
they support, booster clubs also provide value to our
schools and communities. Booster clubs provide volunteer
support for helping with projects such as cleaning up
parks and ballfields, providing new equipment and improving
facilities. Membership with the local high school booster
club will provide you with opportunities to help make
a difference in the lives of kids throughout your community.
Something we can all benefit from.
Send
us your Dear Booster.... article and we will select
one each month to share with the readers of Booster
Trends. To submit your email send to: dearbooster@boostercentral.org.

TIPS |
|
 |
|
Clearly
Outline Job Descriptions:
Booster
Clubs must have a clear understanding of the responsibilities
and job descriptions for each position including sub-committee
or co-chair positions.
A
clear definition will increase the likelihood of a new
volunteer stepping into the position come elections
as well as helping to better organize the group throughout
the year.
Idea:
Put duties and responsibilities of each club position
on the back of nomination forms as well as publishing
for distribution at your first meeting of the start
of each year or season.
Booster Basic:
- Schedule activities designed to do nothing more than
get to know your supporters and have some fun.
